What is a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)?
A RBT is a Registered Behavior Technician, or a paraprofessional credentialed to work with your child with autism. ABA autism treatment programs consist of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or a Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) and a team or RBTs.
Most kids with autism benefit from 15-40 hours a week of ABA therapy initially. BCBAs create individualized treatment programs that RBTs implement. Typically RBTs are supervised 10% of their hours with clients and another 10% by reviewing data and notes. RBTs are typically individuals who are gaining experience as they build a career towards an autism specialization such as behavior analysis, speech therapy, education, social work, or child development.
A session with an RBT can vary drastically between clients but will almost always consist of rapport building and playing, teaching skills as directed by the BCBA, and collecting data. Sessions with clients can be 2-4 hours long and most RBTs see about two clients a day.

In a field where turnover is high, CABS RBTs are career-oriented with longevity and career in mind; in fact, many of our senior staff including Case Managers and Clinical Directors started out as RBTs themselves!
